A DELICIOUS CHOCOLATE PIE RECIPE

Southern Fudge Pie is an easy, crustless, homemade chocolate pie made with chocolate, sugar, flour, butter, eggs and pecans. Pure deliciousness! This recipe for is for all you choco-holics out there! This pie is pretty neat because it kind of makes its own crispy outer edge so no crust is needed. It slices up perfectly and is best served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Can I use a pie crust instead?

You can, but it isn’t necessary, the batter bakes up to form its own crisp edge and holds together perfectly without a crust.

How do I know when the pie is done baking?

The center should be firm and not jiggly when the pie is set. Bake until the outer edge is dome-like and the center no longer appears loose.

Can I make this ahead of time?

Yes, you can make it the day before, let it cool completely, then wrap and refrigerate. Just bring it to room temperature or warm slightly before serving.

What can I use instead of pecans?

If you’re not a fan of pecans, try swapping with walnuts or omitting nuts altogether for a smoother texture.

What should I serve with this pie?

I think it looks its best when the slices are served with some ice cream or whipped cream and a little drizzle of Hershey’s chocolate sauce. But you can top with whatever toppings you enjoy.

How should I store leftover pie?

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Serve chilled or at room temperature.

Can I freeze this Southern Fudge Pie?

Freezing is not recommended for this recipe, as the texture can change and the pie may lose its signature fudgy quality.

I swapped vegan butter and a gluten free cup-fo-cup flour to satisfy allergy requirements. Turned out superbly. Thanks for reminding me of a childhood favorite. I hadn’t made this in over 40 years. It brought back great memories.
