BITE SIZED CHILI CHEESE DOGS

If you’re looking for the ultimate comfort food, these Chili Cheese Dog Sliders are it! Mini sausages nestled in soft Hawaiian rolls, layered with gooey cheese, hearty chili, and finished with a buttery garlic topping. We love these for a fun and easy weeknight dinner but they also make for the perfect game day snack or party food! They come together fast and disappear even faster! That’s totally my kind of dinner recipe!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Can I use different rolls other than slider rolls?

Of course. Regular rolls or the butter Hawaiian rolls can be used if you don’t like the sweet version.

Why use different types of cheese?

If you don’t want to do shredded and sliced cheese, you can just do one or the other. The sliced cheese just makes it easier to stuff the sliders with.

Can I add some heat?

Sure. You can easily add some heat by adding some jalapenos to the mix.

Can I use regular hot dogs?

You bet. I just liked the convenience of the cocktail hot dogs. They fit nicely in the sliders, but, you can grab some regular hot dogs and cut them down to fit the slider buns. Any sausages or hot dogs can be used.

Can I make these ahead of time?

You can assemble everything but wait to bake them until right before serving. Store covered in the fridge for up to 4 hours in advance.

How should I store leftovers?

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container and should be refrigerated. They’ll last up to 3 days. The sliders may get soggy overtime because of the chili and other toppings you may choose to use.

INGREDIENTS NEEDED: (SEE RECIPE CARD BELOW FOR THE FULL RECIPE)

  • Hawaiian sweet rolls – if you aren’t a fan of sweet rolls, just pick up a pack of 12 dinner rolls.
  • sliced cheddar cheese – I am using slices of cheese and shredded cheddar cheese for this. You do not have to do that. You can use all slices or all shredded. Whatever works for you! I just found that the sliced cheese slides into the rolls a little easier and the shredded melts easier on top.
  • cocktail sausages – something like Lit’l Smokies, but any small sausages should work.
  • chili– whatever canned hot dog chili you prefer should work. I used Wolf Brand canned hot dog chili, but next time I think I’m using a homemade version. I have a Homemade Hot Dog Chili recipe that I really enjoy.
  • butter – you can use salted or unsalted butter for these sliders
  • garlic salt – if you don’t want any added salt, just use garlic powder.
  • onion powder
  • shredded cheddar cheese – have fun with different cheese. Pepper Jack would add a nice little kick to this. Mozzarella or Colby Jack also are good options.
  • toppings– you can use toppings like white onion, green onions, ketchup and mustard. Any hot dog toppings that you typically enjoy will work here.

HOW TO MAKE CHILI CHEESE DOG SLIDERS:

Preheat the oven to 350F degrees. Place the Hawaiian rolls into an ungreased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cut a slit into the top of each roll, going about ¾ of the way deep. Cut each slice of cheddar in quarters and place one piece of cheddar into each roll. Place one sausage into each roll. Top each sausage with a spoon full of chili.
