Pizza Hut Garlic Cheese Bread
Pizza Hut Garlic Cheese Bread slices are nostalgic, buttery, garlicky pieces of bread with a golden, crispy crust and melty, gooey cheese!
A RETRO RECIPE
If you’re old enough to remember when Pizza Hut used to serve their Garlic Cheese Bread (not the cheese breadsticks they have now) then you are going to love this copycat recipe. And, if you aren’t old enough to know what I’m talking about, trust me, you’re in for a treat with this Pizza Hut Garlic Cheese Bread! These are slices of garlic bread with mozzarella cheese melted on them (plus, I have a secret ingredient that makes that cheese extra gooey!) When my husband and I first started dating in the early 90’s, Pizza Hut was one of our go-to places and we would always order this as an appetizer and get a pizza to share. Do they still offer this at a Pizza Hut near you?

This was fantastic!!! Made a big tray for a family gathering. It disappeared so fast, my guests were fighting over getting the last piece…”

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
I know it may seem crazy, but, I promise it works! It almost makes the cheese taste more cheesy and gooey. Hard to explain but you don’t taste it as a separate ingredient. So I recommend keeping it.
I think you could probably make this into cheese sticks using pizza dough. I just haven’t tested it out yet. If you try it out, feel free to share how it turns out with us in the comments. If you rather have a breadstick style recipe in the meantime, try my Pizza Hut Breadstick recipe.
These are best the day that you make them. You can store leftovers in an airtight container and keep them in the fridge for up to 2-3 days. Reheat slices in the oven or Air Fryer to get the warm and slightly crispy again.
Pizza, of course! Ha! Obviously this goes great with nearly everything. Some ideas include:

INGREDIENTS NEEDED: (SEE RECIPE CARD BELOW FOR THE FULL RECIPE)
- French or Italian Bread
- unsalted butter– softened to room temperature. Need to soften butter quickly? Use any of my Tips to Soften Butter Fast.
- minced garlic– I think fresh works best. The jarred garlic just doesn’t bring as much flavor, but if you’re in a pinch, use what you got!
- salt
- grated parmesan cheese – The green bottle stuff is what I use. if you don’t have this on hand, don’t worry, it will still taste great without it.
- shredded mozzarella provolone mix– or just use regular mozzarella cheese. If you can find it, I also really like the shredded mozzarella cheese that has the Philadelphia cream cheese added. It melts great! Or you can certainly freshly shred some mozzarella cheese too.
- regular mayonnaise – it really should be a full fat mayonnaise. I cannot stand Miracle Whip so please do not ask me about using Miracle Whip – ha! It is too tangy and it is a dressing not a mayonnaise.
- chopped fresh parsley– can be added to the butter and/or at the end. It’s an optional ingredient, but you can use dried parsley instead if desired.
- marinara sauce– for serving. Use your favorite brand of sauce.

HOW TO MAKE PIZZA HUT GARLIC CHEESE BREAD:
Preheat the oven to 375F degrees. Slice the bread into 1- 1 ½ inch thick slices. Add the butter, minced garlic, salt and parmesan cheese to a medium bowl. Mix everything together and set aside. Add the shredded cheese and mayo to another medium bowl and stir to mix. It will be thick and clumpy but do your best to get it stirred together. Set aside. Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper. Butter both sides of the bread and place them on the baking sheet.

Add about one Tablespoon of the cheese mixture to the top of each slice and use a knife to press down and spread the cheese mixture evenly over the slice. Bake for 13-15 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and melty and begins to brown.

Add fresh minced parsley for garnish and serve with your favorite dipping sauce!

Oh wow, talk about a blast from the past! Pizza Hut Garlic Cheese Bread always hits!
This was fantastic!!! made a big tray for a family gathering. It disappeared so fast, my guests were fighting over getting the last piece. I followed your recipe exactly. Probably dating myself but I do remember when Pizza Hut had this on their menu. Regarding your comments about this recipe, I can’t stand Miracle Whip either. I don’t even know who even like this or why Kraft still makes it.
Woo hoo! Thank you so much!! I am so happy you gave it a try! There seems to be a very specific generation of people who like Miracle Whip dressing. I’m happy they like it but I need real mayonnaise and it’s so easy and cheap to make homemade too.
