Ground Beef and Gravy

Ground Beef and Gravy only needs 20 minutes and a few pantry staple ingredients to make. It’s a comforting and filling weeknight meal!

A QUICK GROUND BEEF DINNER RECIPE

When I tell you this Ground Beef and Gravy is one comforting meal I truly mean it. It is so simple yet so delicious, you will want to make it at least once a week. It is one of those comfort meals I make pretty often and it’s one I know everyone will enjoy. This meal easily feeds four people and can be stretched a bit further if you serve with something filling like mashed potatoes. It’s meals like this that fill bellies without breaking the bank!

Looking down on a big serving of Ground Beef and Gravy.

Absolutely fabulous. Made exactly as written and could NOT find a single step that didn’t come out as described. Grew up with my Mom being the “Lunch Lady” in my elementary school and her “hamburger gravy over mashed potatoes” was my all time favorite. Since her passing I have searched high and low for a recipe that even comes close to hers. AND THIS IS IT!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What do I serve with Ground Beef and Gravy?

We love this Ground Beef and Gravy best with some of my Crock Pot Mashed Potatoes or simple stove top Creamy Mashed Potatoes. But this is also delicious with egg noodles, on a bed of rice or even your favorite pasta.

What else can I add?

Add some diced onion and bell pepper to the meat to make it a little more bulked up. You could also stir in some frozen veggies while it is simmering for a heartier meal.

Can I swap out ground beef?

Turkey, chicken, or venison can all be used instead of ground beef if desired. You may want to switch up the beef broth for chicken or vegetable broth though.

How to store leftovers?

Keep leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days or keep them longer by freezing for up to 3 months.

What’s the best way to reheat Ground Beef and Gravy?

Reheat in the microwave or back in the skillet. You may need to add another splash of beef broth to help loosen it up.

INGREDIENTS NEEDED: (SEE RECIPE CARD BELOW FOR THE FULL RECIPE)

  • lean ground beef – I used 80/20 lean ground beef.
  • salted butter – you can use unsalted butter if you need to cut back on sodium.
  • cloves garlic – I always prefer fresh garlic as it gives the best flavor but you can use the jarred stuff if that is what you have.
  • dried minced onion – you can use a bit of freshly diced onion if you prefer.
  • black pepper
  • all-purpose flour – this is used to thicken the gravy, you can also use cornstarch.
  • beef broth – can use low or no sodium if necessary.
  • Worcestershire sauce
Ground beef, beef stock, Worcesterhire sauce, minced onion, all purpose flour, butter, garlic cloves, salt, and pepper.

HOW TO MAKE GROUND BEEF AND GRAVY:

In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef, breaking it up into crumbles until there is no pink left, 8-10 minutes. I like to get a little char on the beef if possible. Drain any excess grease.

Lower the temperature to medium heat and add the butter. Allow the butter to melt.

My husband and I enjoyed this recipe. Besides the minced onion, I added chopped up onion and green beans. My husband loves onions and green beans. He is a meat, potatoes and vegetables guy. Thankyou for sharing this recipe. I will make again. It was soooo good. I also saved your recipe.❤️

What are the measurements for the garlic, beef broth, meat etc. In fact what are the measurements for all of it? Did I just miss them? Im in the middle of making this now and I am having to guess at “amounts” Ive read and reread and don’t see them. Looked for a video, but can’t find one. Help!!

This is an amazing recipe. I usually would make Shepards pie, however I make this now instead. I added baby lima beans and peas. Add whatever veggies you like. Just a great meal that EVERYONE loves.

This dish is quick, easy, and oh so delicious. I have made this a dozen or so times and each times seems to taste even better (if that’s possible). My granddaughter who is a very picky eater, ate this without any hesitation after I made her take the first spoonful. Now, whenever she comes to visit, she ask me for the meat gravy with potatoes . Thank you for sharing this with us❤️

Made this 2 days in a row! First time served with potatoes and peas, second time with carrots and cabbage. Super easy and big bang for little effort. Also sent to my son who has 3 boys who will go nuts over this.
    Thanks so much!

So delicious & easy to make. I made 1/2 the recipe because I’m a widow living alone. I had all the ingredients except minced garlic so I used garlic powder. I made mashed potatoes & put the beef & gravy on top. At my age I’m glad to have a recipe that’s quick to make & tastes so good.

Very good! I didn’t have dried onions so I did a handful of chopped fresh onions and cooked with the meat. When it was almost done I tasted it and it needed some salt probably because I used no sodium beef stock. Definitely a keeper recipe! It was good and so fast!

Simple, quick and so delish. I served with homemade mashed potatoes, french cut garlic string beans and homemade dinner rolls…Yum. I have made this four times since stumbling across your recipe. My husband and I thank you.
